Favourite Star Wars Game?

by Sushi » 15 Apr 2010, 02:06

X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. Best space simulators ever...

If we can get FW:ToW 50% as good as those games, I'll be a happy camper :D

Back in the day it was Rogue Squadron.

Now I'd have to say... Battlefront Elite Squadron, or which ever one is the latest one out on the PSP.

Tie Fighter.

I've tried to make it work in XP with mouse, can't do it.

I remember years ago my cousin beating the excruciatingly hard X-Wing when it was new. Good times.

Rogue Leader on the GameCube (Man, if only it wasn't stolen)
That game made me waste my school

But I can also have fun with:
Empire at War (+ Expansion)
Empire Earth
Age of Empires III
RollerCoaster Tycoon (That game seriously rocks!!)
Battlefield 2
World in Conflict (I have to upgrade my pc for this one though, its very big)
FREELANCER :D

That's practicaly all the games I have for pc
Xbox is a different story:
GTA IV
GTA SA
Halo 3
Halo Wars
Red Faction Geurilla
Simpsons Game
Pure/Batman (Pure is cool, batman crap came with the xbox)
Assasin Creed I/II (But those game are played by my brother, I'm not a big fan... just gimme STAR WARS)

:D

Dark Forces - because you can shoot stormtroopers in the face

Image

Xwing - because this is the best cockpit ever!

I forgot how epic the cockpits were! I'm glad we've done many for our mod, though :)

Oh man, back in the day it was Rebellion. I was never any good, but the fleet engagements were fun :P
If it wasn't that, Jedi Knight (Dark Forces II).

Nowadays, I guess Empire at War probably takes the pie for me. <3 my Strategy games :P

I don't know what it was about XvT and XWA. Those games were just so amazing and I have so many happy memories playing them. It's too bad the big gaming companies have decided there is no market for space sims anymore.

There is a market, just not pure space sims....i mean the X games (like X2 and X3: reunion) play phenomenally and look incredible, and i heard they sell pretty well too.

And look at EVE:online, thats primarely just a trading game - and it has millions of players too.

I think to have major success you have tantalize both the casual and hardcore gamer.

Create systems that are shallow enough to support a 'jump in and have fun' kind of mentality, but also offer deep gameplay systems to cater to the hardcore gamer, like for example the trading system in ToW.
Most casual players won't ever delve into that, they'll just stick to the empire or rebels, since this is a very 'good or bad' game balance.
But people looking into more serious plays can perhaps go work as bounty hunters or what have you, since these offer deeper and more 'grey areas' to play in.

The Rogue Squadron i thought were immense fun, but i thought they seriously lacked the depth i got from the XWING/TIE fighter sim games, and vice versa those games were incredibly difficult for a casual player to drop in and play with.

I think if you hit that golden path of 'easy to learn, difficult to master' you're on the right path to success.
