Welcome to Freeworlds: Tides of War!

Expect bugs. Expect crashes. Expect the unexpected.

Before downloading, take a moment to run our Spec Checker and ensure your computer is compatible with the mod. Being able to run vanilla Freelancer does not mean you will be able to run Freeworlds: Tides of War! If you have concerns about performance, use the Spec Checker's output when asking your question, either here on the forums or on our Discord server.

The mod requires a clean install of Freelancer 1.0 (this will be what the CD installs). No patch or update is required.

Launcher Download




If you are using Windows 8 or above, you may run into a problem with SmartScreen when running either Spec Checker, the installer or the Launcher. You may find instructions on how to bypass this here: How to bypass SmartScreen.

A hotfix has been deployed, your launcher should detect the patch when you attempt to launch the game.

Patch Notes:

-Removed film grain
-Fixed My Games CTD
-Fixed shipdealer/trader going to equipment dealer

Hotfix 2 has been deployed.

Patch notes:

-Fixed Formos docking beacon name
-Fixed X-7 stations docking backwards
-Fixed Muunilinst -> Bilbringi jump beacon name
-Fixed Muunilinst, Coruscant, navmap scales
-Kessel Hidden from navmap (Incomplete system)
-Cleaned up pilots
-'changed a few things around in plugins' (The Great Descriptor FriendlyFire)
-Fixed a bunch of encounters
-Removed undefined commodities
-Removed weapons probe test
-Fixed hit_pts on some Cargopods
-Removed carrier replacement ship commodities
-Removed duplicate Nebulon-B weapons
-Removed deprecated hit & explosion effects
-Removed duplicate blackhole viseffect
-fixed texture reference on some weapon viseffects

Hotfix 3 has been deployed.

Patch notes:

-Bastion - Fixed tradelane orientation.
-Re-added proxy buoy model.
-Increased random mission retreat range (3.5k->35k), retreat timer (45s->60s), ship spawn ranges (2.5k->5k), secondary waypoint distance (6k->15k).
-Reduced Borleias death zone size to correct radius.
-Fixed Corellia's atmosphere/death zone being too big.
-Fixed Y'Toub's buoy being too close.
-Fixed Mon Eron buoy being inside the planet.
-Rebalanced power generators on many ships.
-Fixed many shipdealers.
-Regenerated shortest paths.
-Increased Corellia navmap scale.
-Inability to create shadow depth stencil turns shadows off instead of bugging.
-Hyperdrives: Fixed bug where destination system name was not transmitted.
-Hyperdrives: Stopped messages from being sent about gravity projectors when no gravity projectors are mounted.
-Hyperdrives: Fixed crash in update when a jump buoy gets finalized while other buoys still exist.
-Hyperdrives: Fixed orientation restriction.
-Hyperdrives: Added ship class restriction: ships can only dock on jump buoys made by ships of the same class or higher.
-Hyperdrives: Streamlined docking restrictions (no longer stuck in dock mode immobile).

Launcher updated to build 109:

- Some fixes for mod settings integration (Mod settings in launcher will come with the next mod update)
- Launcher now closes Freelancer when an update has been detected

Hotfix 4 (one day they won't be hotfixes anymore) has been deployed.

Patch notes:

-Added simplistic version control which kicks players after ~1 second if no version packet was received or if it is the wrong one. Client now shows a more informative error message when getting disconnected if possible.
-Added kick message when server shuts down properly.
-Reduced NPC spawn rates, increased respawn times.
-Fixed the elusive sub_6EF54E0 crash: one too many permutation in area_defend_fighters.ini. Somebody couldn't count.
-Added mod settings template for launcher.
-Changed space_outpost_dock to berth.
-Wrecks plugin should be more resilient against bad references.
-Added missing shipdealers.
-Added toggle switch to version auto-kick using ".versionkick".
-Actually fixed X-7 launch orientation this time.
-Fixed launch button disappearing on certain planets. Reordered buttons so commodity trader appears before equipment dealer.
-Removed starsphere_SW.cmp from PetalDB.
-SIZER COMMITED TO THE REPO WITHOUT NOTES, WHAT A MYSTERY THIS PATCH WILL BE.

Hotfix 5 has been deployed.

Patch notes:

-Massive decrease in engine power drain on freighters.
-Fixed maneuverability of starter ships.
-Fixed docking beacon names in bastion
-Fixed base names in Y'Toub
-Added folder structure for infocard overhaul
-Added a new static main menu background
-Hyperdrive: Smarter cooldown updates, calculating gates are despawned if owner disappears, smarter cancel -support (properly handles deleting the gate)
-Fixed a few key handlers (our hitmen need good handlers)
-Fixed non-working auto docking atmosphere
-Solved several inconsistency issues in multiple plugins, including the class restriction hyperdrive bug
-Added setting for godrays
-Changed phantomloot tables - decreased chance and included some variety
-Fixed lighting bug for non-normal mapped ships and solars
-Changed Centrepoint solar type to avoid dumb Freelancer issues (unfinished, undockable)
-Added messages when cargo mass changes
-Moved Bloodstar hardpoints
-Fixed various map scale issues
-Fixed various missing gravwells
-Fixed various docking beacons inside planets
-Fixed invisible star in Fresia
-Fixed Blastech NPCs defiling the Emperor's memory in Holy Byss
-Fixed opposing trade faction NPCs from engaging in all out war for galactic supremacy
-Fixed Fondor death zone
-Fixed Borleias planet name
-Fixed Howlrunner and Rill weapon energy consumption.
-Fixed various base issues
-Fixed typo in Bootstrap Base
-Fixed various planets showing up as Dathomir upon landing

-Fixed Polith wells and death zones

-Played with the Firespray
