Finally managed to plan out the best way to deploy future planet textures. Toyed with the idea of entirely replacing planet rendering and got fairly far into it, but rendering issues made me scrap the possibility.

Figured out a Mathematica script that projects Mercator (or similarly designed) maps into gnomonic cube maps, reading all input maps from a folder and outputting DDS maps at the end. Fairly slow to process (~10-15 seconds for a 2048x1024 map on an i5-2500K at 4.3GHz), but better than planettool. Also implemented a UTFEditor batch texture import feature to speed up the process there.

Will probably make a few rename/manage scripts to process planets faster and as automated as possible.

Also did a few random things with planet rendering, namely finally fixing the seam that they all exhibited in one form or another.

Large amount of work done on effects and distortion mapping. Fixed the remaining bugs with distortion mapping and halved or more the amount of particles used by explosions with only a marginal difference in appearance.

Will be tackling weapon explosions next.

Proton torpedo, advanced proton torpedo, heavy rocket, diamond boron missile, advanced concussion missile overhauled. Gotta say I really love the adv. proton torp out of the lot. Might come back to the heavy rocket.

All the missiles are now completed, including the new mag-pulse and ion-pulse effects.
