Return of the PC - Windows 10

by Axxif » 30 Dec 2014, 02:54

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2690092/ ... ws-10.html

From what I've gathered, Windows 10 is going to be the best of the last decade of Microsoft systems, and (not mentioned in that article) is going to have a completely new web browser, codenamed Spartan (Halo reference anyone?). What's your thoughts on Windows 10? Do you agree with the statement that this will put Microsoft at the lead of the electronics industry?

I think Windows 10 will garner some interest for a while. The real question is- like when Vista was brought about- what about Windows 10 is there to really make us want to move on from Windows 7?

Then again, this comes from a person who continued to use Windows XP until about a year ago, so what do I know? :P

But more to the point, I do not think that Windows 10 will serve to bring Microsoft to the lead of the electronics industry, no. Or if so, it will take some time for old wounds to heal.

Imo, it really is the best of the app-oriented qualities of Windows 8 and the traditional-qualities of Windows 7 (Such as the start bar, which they are finally getting right), and it will be the same system on any platform you're using - smartphone, tablet, desktop, laptop, bigscreen tv, mega-million dollar home interface system, et cetera. Just those factors alone set it in front of the crowd (granted they'll still have to get the market on their side, and that might take time, but they'll have the momentum behind them)

That sounds eerily like the Windows 8 pitch

ME is to XP as Vista is to 7 as 8 is to 10, if that makes sense. The Microsoft curse is that every other OS is great and every other OS is horrible. Given that, we're slated for greatness :b

Wow, I really am commenting a lot on this. I'll refrain for a while

Honestly, I did not mind 8 - I use a modified version of WinServer 2012 myself, which is basically Win8. With minor tweaks the mobile bullshit is gone, and every other thing is just a minor inconvenience cause it's different. *shrugs* The hate is just bandwagon.

I don't mind 8, it came preloaded on my PC and I have slowly adapted it for my own uses. 10 will just mean I need to take time to adapt again.

I've preferred 8 over 7 as the read/write times mean for an overall faster boot and gaming experience. Then when you put something such as Stardocks Windows 8 Start bar in (which only costs $5 I think) it really starts to shine.

Haven't looked in depth with 10, but from what I hear it sounds promising. And yeah as Axxif said, every other is great. Time will tell though :)
