aiming reticule missing by a mile

by Cmdr_Vauss » 03 Jan 2016, 00:35

So I just took my CR-90 out for a spin and when I was going up against NPCs, they would fly right past me and I would have the target in the center of my reticule locked on and I would be missing by like 10 meters with every shot. the only time i was able to hit the NPCs were when they were flying away from me in front of me, other than that I couldn't hit a thing.

That's normal. NPCs adjust their speed and hop in and out of cruise regularly so your reticule is nearly always off. You won't likely hit one unless it is within 500-M of you. StarWings and Defenders 100-M. Even then it is not guaranteed and your accuracy will be low.

This is not indicative of how well your guns work against players though. Players can't constantly hop in and out of cruise so they are easier to hit.

Also noteworthy: Having your turbolasers on lowers your accuracy and rate of fire, turn them off if you are on anti-fighter duty., should be your top two and bottom two guns not counting the radar dishes.

Firing two quads from your broadside is also only going to scare the fighters a little, you might hit but it is unlikely as the rate of fire is low enough that there is too large a gap in your coverage. For the best chance to hit something you must face them and fire all four quads directly ahead.

well the defenders were definitely hard to hit, but not as bad as the pirate fighters were. even when they were right on me the lead distance was off by like 20 m.

Pirates are a bitch no matter what. X-TIEs and Y-TIEs aren't bad but TYE-Wings are tiny targets and Vornskrs are weird ones. Chir'dakis and Z'Ceptors adjust speed too quickly to get a good shot on.

My advice: If you can ignore them do so and just move on.

They aren't. They're also constantly making minor maneuvers that throw your aim off slightly. Just turning a couple degrees is enough to make a burst miss at those distances.

well on my screen it looks as if they are traveling in a straight line at a constant speed, and the aiming reticule in front of them is also doing the same thing...

Okay, the short version of everything I just said:

NPCs maneuver erratically, unless they are heading directly towards or away from you then you are unlikely to hit.
